Care and funding
What happens if I need to go into care?
Later life care is an expense more and more people are having to consider and plan for. Depending on the level of care you need, it can be costly. The average UK care home fees are around £40,000 a year and can amount to twice this if you need specialist care.
When you enter care, you are automatically ‘means tested’ and all of your capital assets, including your home, are taken into account.
Only those who have assets below the £14,250 threshold are entitled to the maximum possible public funding.
